About the Recipe

Cranberries are a northern Wisconsin tradition! Grown in local cranberry bogs, they are plentiful in the autumn months. If you're craving even more cranberries, check out one of the many local Cranberry Festivals!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Sugar

  • 1/4 cup Flour

  • 1/4 tsp Salt

  • 3 cups Fresh Cranberries, halved

  • 1 tsp Almond Extract

  • 1/2 cup Water

  • Prepared Pie Crust (store bought or homemade)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat your oven th 425°F. In a sauce pan, combine sugar, flour, salt, cranberries, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Continue to boil for 10 minutes, stirring constantly.

Step 2

Prepare the pie crust. Use your favorite recipe or purchase a ready made crust. Stir the almond extract into the cranberry mixture and pour into the pie crust.

Step 3

If wanting a double crust pie (closed top) add the second layer of pastry, crimp the edges and cut vent slits into the top. If wanting an uncvered pie, skip this step.

Step 4

Bake in your preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, checking teh crust isn't browing too quickly every 10 minutes. If you notice the crust is browning too quickly, cover pie with aluminum foil and continue baking.

Step 5

Let cool before serving. Best served lightly dusted with powdered sugar and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
