About the Recipe

This is our favorite recipe that uses our award winning Grandma's Caponatina. Filled with delicious Italian flavors, it compliments the Italian sausages beautifully. We like to serve this to guests when they're craving a filling and hearty Italian meal. Beware though, this sandwich can get messy! Make sure to have plenty of napkins near by.


  • 1 pack Italian sausages (mild or hot)

  • Red Wine

  • 1/2 cup Grandma's Caponatina 

  • Sliced Mozarella

  • Italian bread


Step 1

In a medium sized skillet, add a drizzle of vegetable oil. Heat until oil is just hot and palce in sausages. Cook on the first side for 2-3 minutes before flipping sausages and cooking for another 2-3 minutes.

Step 2

When the sausages are nicely browned, add the red wine to the pan, until the amount of liquid is covering the bottom 1/3 of the sausages. Cover pan, reduce the heat to a light simmer, and let sausages steam in the wine until fully cooked, about 15 minutes. Turn the sausages ocassionally.

Step 3

While the sausages are steaming, preheat the broiler. When sausages are cooked, remove from wine, place on freshly sliced Italian bread, add a large spoonful of Grandma's Caponatina, and cover with sliced mozarella.

Step 4

Place sausage sandwiches under the broiler. Cook until the edges of the bread are browned and the cheese is bubbling. Make sure to keep an eye on the sandwiches as the broiler can burn them quickly. Serve hot with a side of Killer Kidney Bean Salad or with your favorite salad.
